Asymmetrique Answer

NOTE: Digital Stages is sorry to announce that Asymmetrique Answer performances on Sat 23 – Sun 24 April at Stratford Circus have to be cancelled due to the circumstances beyond our control. One of the performers was not given entry clearance to enter the UK. However, we’re excited to present the extended Troika Ranch show on these dates, which includes a performance of Loopdiver study #1, showcase of previous works by Troika Ranch and a conversation with Mark Coniglio, co-founder and Artistic Director of multi-award winning Troika Ranch company (USA).

PH(R)ASE

About the performance

Ph(r)ase is a new performance by Asymmetrique Answer, in which the artists go further in combining different forms of arts, media and technology on stage. The dance turns into graphics and sound developing a single aesthetic language where any phrase could become a point, a line, a plane, volume, contrast, and an impulse. Dance and sound share a common quality of attention to micro-fluctuations, micro-amplitudes, general sensation of duration and moment. This aesthetics of geometrical minimalism of all elements could give the audience a chance to develop their own interpretation of what is happening as well as to free oneself from the necessity of any interpretation.

About the company

Asymmetrique Answer is a new answer to the main question: Who we are?

It is an interdisciplinary hi-tech project that thoughtfully combines design, fashion, choreography, media art, and experimental programming. It is a combination of high technology and actual art. It simply transforms person’s movements into video, image and sound. A performer becomes an impulse of the interactive screen within interactive graphic and sound environment. The Asymmetrique Answer is a reaction to whatever happens around you, not a confrontation and a protest, but a positive creative action.

Using a motion tracking technology, we work with space, body, graphics, light, sound and colour. Fixing the movements of a performer, a software artist receives this information in real time and immediately transforms the performer’s dance into its graphic representation, while a composer integrates the sound, creating as a result a new aesthetic whole.

“Visions of Solaris? Henry Moore sculptures coming alive? How she does that – gives you a feeling of alienation to the human’s plastic, a feeling of extraterrestrial creature, who is not aggressive, but still frightening?” – Vremia Novostej
